In order to better serve you, Dr. Parker has compiled a list of several of the most frequently asked questions (or FAQs) on laser treatment for nail fungus and answers them below.

Does laser treatment for toenail fungus hurt?

Patients are often concerned that the use of our Fotona laser will be painful, and are then thrilled to learn that their visit will be virtually painless! The Fotona laser depends on two factors to best eradicate fungus. One, the laser wavelength penetrates the nail bed and nail plate to kill the fungal elements and the other is to raise the nail temperature to 50°c. The Fotona laser has a chilled air supply that you regulate to maintain your own comfort level.  So, not only will you be comfortable during the treatment, you won’t have to take drugs or be given anesthesia.  You’ll be able to walk out of our office feeling as great as you did when you walked in our door.

Over-the-counter creams are messy and ineffective.  Prescribed oral medications have adverse side effects that can be dangerous.  Couple that with limited effectiveness, and you will quickly reconsider that option.  In our experience, laser treatment for fungal toenails is the best, most effective treatment, because the focused light of the laser penetrates the nail.  The fungus can’t hide!

Have you let the fear of pain keep you from effective laser treatment?  You don’t have to tolerate embarrassing toenail fungus.  Call today for an appointment at Parker Foot & Ankle.  Podiatrist Robert Parker will get your feet back in sandal shape with easy laser treatments.

Is laser treatment for fungal infections effective?

In our experience here at Parker Foot & Ankle, we have seen toenail fungus eradicated in about 85% of cases in our office.  Can you imagine?  Over-the-counter creams see little success at just 8-12%.  Prescription drugs (with potentially dangerous side effects) only work about 70% of the time, and require multiple courses of the medication.

The main problem with these other treatment options is their limited reach.  Creams and pills can’t get to the root of the problem—the stubborn fungal infection that is living underneath the nail!  With accuracy and precision, the focused light of the laser is directed on the affected nail, and it penetrates wiping out the infection.

You don’t have to go to a hospital for this treatment.  Just visit Parker Foot & Ankle in Houston, TX.  Treatment will be done in three short visits.  You can expect the new, fungi free nail to re-grow in about nine to twelve months.  Call today to set-up an appointment, and let Dr. Parker and his staff introduce you to effective treatment for fungal toenails.

What’s the bottom line for laser treatment of fungal toenails?
